LATE HEROICS FROM STALEY AND SPRINGER EARN WOMEN’S SOCCER 2-1 WIN

ST. JOSEPH'S COUNTY, IN - Women's soccer (4-1-0) was able to complete an undefeated week as the team defeated Holy Cross (IN) (2-4-0) in the final minute of play behind a goal from sophomore Sammi Springer. Junior Faith Staley had a big game, scoring a goal and finding Springer for the winner.

The Warriors continued their theme of getting plenty of attacking chances early, when sophomore Jenna Schodowski got off the first two shots for Rochester, including a shot on goal. Springer and fellow 2022 All-Newcomer Olivia Howes followed that up with close attempts of their own.

Staley would score her goal in the 26th minute of play when junior Kaylah Joyce found her for an open look. Following the goal, Rochester's defense would continue to execute, intercepting passes while only allowing two shots in the first half.

Holy Cross would find a breakthrough in the first three minutes of the second half, tying the game at 1-1. From there, Rochester would amp up the pace offensively, seeking out shot opportunities with little avail.

Several players including Staley, Howes, and junior Karen Barry would get shot opportunities on goal, but clutch saves would stall the Warriors. With time running out, Rochester had one last opportunity to get a goal and secure the win.

Off a throw-in, Staley would get the ball and find Springer on a grounded cross for a spectacular turnaround goal. Rochester's bench would go into a frenzy, and the defense would use that momentum to secure the victory in the final seconds.
