BASEBALL ENTERS OFFSEASON 2-0 FOLLOWING FALL GAMES AGAINST GRACE CHRISTIAN

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Warriors start their 2023-24 campaign strong with a pair of wins over the Tigers of Grace Christian University. GCU hosted Rochester at Lake Michigan Credit Union Ballpark, home of the Detroit Tigers High-A club, the West Michigan Whitecaps.

Grace Christian made the first move in game one, scoring in the 1st inning. The Warriors responded quickly in the top of the second inning when Nick Czajka scored on a single by Luke Jayaraman. Grace scored another run in the second to take the lead and hold it until the top of the 5th when Donovon Galovich doubled home Ryan Kruzak.

The Warriors would score three more times that inning on hits by Lucas Bateman and Aiden Alspaugh and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from Ray Perez. Starting pitcher Ryan Polega would pick up his first career win as a Warrior, going 4 innings and only allowing 2 runs. Polega would be followed by a strong outing from Matthew Redmond and a save from Andrew Schultz, both in their first collegiate outings.

In game two the Warriors would strike first with Brendan DeFlorio scoring on an error by GCU's right fielder. After a three-run 2nd inning from the Tigers, the Warriors would end up scoring seven unanswered runs. Antonio Grazioli would find his first hit as a Warrior, an RBI single in the 3rd inning.

Bateman had another great game at the plate, doubling home 2 runs late in the game to solidify the Warrior's lead. Bryan Masterson was masterful in his first outing in the red and black, going 4 innings, letting up 0 runs, and receiving the win.

The Warriors head into the off-season with a 2-0 record and open the season February 17-18 at the first annual Midwestern Clash.
