Men's Basketball downed by Madonna in Saturday battle

(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian men's basketball team took on the Madonna Crusaders on Saturday afternoon in a matchup of top teams in the WHAC standings. A strong first half by the Crusaders was enough to give them the win in the game. RCU falls to 11-5 overall and 6-4 in conference play. 

 

FIRST HALF

Tymias Williams started the Warriors scoring in the game with a first-possession jumper. Williams added another pair of buckets as the teams started out scoring back and forth, with Mason Parker and Tyler Allen getting in on the scoring early. 

 

After leading 19-14 at the media timeout, RCU would go on a four-minute scoreless streak that would give MU a 24-20 lead. The Crusaders continued their scoring as RCU would grab points from Ashton Goul, Darnell Turner Jr., and Linden Holder before the end of the half.

 

SECOND HALF

Tymias Williams started the second half the same as the first, with a jumper. Tyler Allen attempted to aid the potential comeback as well with his own bucket, but the MU offense would match the Warriors each time down the floor. Darnell Turner Jr. added seven points before the under-10 media timeout. 

 

Jahmil Mashhour and Ashton Goul each added a free throw, and James Fisher would follow them up with a layup. Down the stretch for RCU, Mason Parker, Lucas Brannen, and Vir Chowdhary would all add points. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

A pair of Warriors tallied double-digit points, led by Tymias Williams with 13 and Darnell Turner Jr. with 12. James Fisher recorded three assists in the game. 

 

Tyler Allen and James Fisher each were able to bring down four rebounds in the game. Four different players recorded two steals, with Tymias Williams, Linden Holder, Tyler Allen, and Lucas Brannen each hitting that mark.

RCU will head to Southfield, Michigan, for its next WHAC matchup against the Blue Devils from Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, January 14, at 7:30 PM.
