Women's Basketball earns 86-59 win over Madonna

(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's basketball team continued WHAC play against the Madonna Crusaders on Saturday afternoon. RCU used an explosive offense in the second quarter, leading 26-10, to retake the lead and put Madonna in a 14-point deficit. 

 

The Warriors make it three straight overall and six straight WHAC games that they have won. RCU is now 10-6 overall and 9-1 in WHAC play. 

 

FIRST HALF

The Warriors started quickly offensively with a 7-0 run to force a Madonna timeout right away. Jacey Somers recorded five of the first seven points. The timeout would prove useful for MU as they would score 10 of the following 12 points to get them right back in the game. Kendal Zeiter would rattle off six points on a couple of possessions. The Crusaders nabbed seven points to close out the quarter with a 19-17 lead. 

 

The second period saw the Crusaders get started early once again, with Samone Andrews, Ashley Loon, and Jacey Somers scoring nine points. The Warriors would close the quarter out on a 15-4 run over the final 6:32 in the half. Tambre Williams and Amal Younes would get in on the scoring with Loon adding another three-pointer. 

 

SECOND HALF

The Warriors were able to pull further ahead with aid from a 15-4 start to the second half. Kendal Zeiter opened the run with a layup, with Ashley Loon tallying five points and Samone Andrews and Jacey Somers all earning points. Emily Lockey and Shahd Bakkar were both able to get into the scoring column before the end of the third period. 

 

The final period saw the Warriors' starters play the first three minutes, during which they were able to build a 30-point lead, while going on an 11-4 run while they were on the court. Jordan Peterson and Chloe Sakalas nabbed early points while the RCU defense kept MU at bay. Reagan Zeiter would grab her first collegiate points with 30 seconds left in the game. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

Four of the five Warrior starters tallied double-digit points, with Kendal Zeiter leading the way with 23, while Samone Andrews had 18 and Jacey Somers and Ashley Loon had 13 and 11, respectively. Amal Younes led the passing attack with seven assists, while Zeiter had six. 

 

Kendal Zeiter and Jacey Somers both led the team with eight rebounds, while Shahd Bakkar led the way with three steals with Amal Younes, Jordan Peterson, and Emily Lockey each recording two steals.
