FREELAND & SPRINGER HAT TRICKS FUEL DOMINANT OFFENSIVE SHOWING

WASHINGTON, MI - There was no shortage of goals in women's soccer's (6-1-0) 7-3 win over NCAA DIII Alma (0-5-0) on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomores Mya Freeland and Sammi Springer wreaked havoc during the game, scoring three goals each, marking the first time in program history that two Warriors recorded hat tricks in the same game.

The scoring started almost immediately, with sophomore Jenna Schodowski crossing a ball over for a header for Freeland in the eighth minute. However, Alma would draw a quick penalty four minutes later, tying the game at 1-1. Another four minutes later, Schodowski would find Freeland again for Freeland's second goal of the game.

Springer checked in at the 19th minute and immediately made an impact by finding Freeland for her third goal in 24 minutes of play to put the Warriors up 3-1. Continuing the rapid scoring, Springer would find goal on an impressive shot directly off a corner kick to get the first goal of her hat trick.

Three minutes into the second half, Schodowski would fire a ball from the left side of the box into the net for an impressive score, putting Rochester up 5-1. The Scots wouldn't back down and scored two goals in rapid succession in the 51st and 55th minutes.

Springer would make quick work of the comeback effort, scoring her second goal off a find by Schodowski for her sixth goal of the season. Following some physical play in the 66th minute, Springer would force a penalty foul on Alma, and cap off her great game with a penalty shot goal to send the Scots packing.
