WARRIORS DRAW WITH #RV OLIVET NAZARENE, 1-1

WARREN, Mich. - A trade of goals in the 20th minute by the Warriors (0-2-3) and the visiting #RV Olivet Nazarene Tigers (0-4-2) ended the match in a draw on Saturday afternoon. Junior Olivia Howes continued her strong season up front with a penalty kick rebound goal to get the Warriors on the board. In an evenly-matched affair, the Warriors got another big-time goalkeeping performance from freshman Sabrina Kiryakoza, who tacked five second-half saves to keep things at a standstill.

THE RUNDOWN

FIRST HALF

  • RCU was the first team to make a challenge in the eighth minute behind a shot on goal from midfielder Jenna Schodowski. Shortly after, Kiryakoza would answer the counter by the Tigers with a save of her own. The teams produced scoring chances in the 19th and 20th minutes, with Olivet Nazarene striking first. The Warriors drew a penalty just a minute later and, thanks to a quick reaction by Howes, found the back of the net off a rebounded save from the penalty. Defender Aliana Perez added a shot on goal with ten minutes remaining in the half to continue the Warriors' attack

SECOND HALF

  • Kiryakoza and the Warrior defense locked things down in the second half, with the goalkeeper producing two saves in less than a minute to keep RCU up front. Perez produced another shot on a goal attempt, and from there, the Warriors' backline kept things challenging for the visitors. The Warrior defense stayed heavily involved in the attack, with Samantha Johns nearly getting two shots to go in the final ten minutes. Things concluded in a draw after 90 minutes

STAT OF THE GAME

Howes has scored three goals in the Warriors' last five games.
