Volleyball stalls the Racers with 3-0 sweep
(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's volleyball team took to the court on Friday evening for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) matchup against the Racers from Northwestern Ohio. The Warriors took command of the match right from the first set to come away with a 3-0 sweep. The Warriors are now 12-7 overall on the season and 6-3 in WHAC play, while the Racers are 5-13 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
Alivia Everitt earned the first RCu point on a strong kill and an assist from Mackenzie Keefer. This began a back-and-forth battle between the two teams as they traded points with neither team having more than a two-point run until midway through the set. A 15-15 tie would see the Warriors score four straight, including an Ashley Horne ace that forced a UNOH timeout. The next four points were traded between the teams before the final four were scored by RCU, with Hannah Maynard earning a pair of service aces.
A UNOH ace and serving error saw the game start 1-1 in the second set. Another rapid exchange of points saw the two teams reach an 11-11 tie. The Warriors would break open the scoring with eight straight Madelyn Geisenhaver serves, where she scored a pair of aces and helped force UNOH to use both of their timeouts. The set ended with an attempted comeback from UNOH, where they scored five of the final 11 points, but a Kendal Zeiter kill stopped the attempt.
The final set of the evening saw the Racers take a 4-2 lead early in the set. The Warriors stormed back to tie the match at eight, which juiced the offense to score 12 of the next 13 points with Ashley Horne and Mackenzie Keefer serving, who both recorded aces. Kendal Zeiter and Madelyn Geisenhaver each tallied multiple kills in the run. Following a couple of back-and-forth points from both sides, RCU's Madelyn Geisenhaver finished out the night with her eighth kill.
