WARRIORS FINISH SEASON AT SIENA HEIGHTS IN WHAC TOURNAMENT

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Warriors wrapped up their season at Siena Heights on Wednesday night. After a very slow first half, the Warriors ramped up the pace offensively and picked up two critical goals from juniors Kennedy Fraser and Olivia Howes.

THE RUNDOWN

FIRST HALF

  • The Warriors got a major boost on the defensive end by goalkeeper Sabrina Kiryakoza, who recorded her first of five saves at the 2:58 mark. The Warriors weren't finding much on the offensive end, but the defense blocked multiple shots while Kiryakoza added two more saves in the half. Howes and forward Laila Vanhoorelbeke shot the Warriors' two attempts in the first half, but both went wide. Following the first half buzzer, both teams remained at a draw

SECOND HALF

  • The offensive adjustments clicked for the Warriors in the second half, with Howes logging the Warriors' first shot on goal attempt with a header 2:45 into the second half. Just two minutes later, the Warriors got their big break with Fraser's goal to take the lead.  The Saints responded with several offensive possessions that resulted in shots, but RCU's defense held strong by forcing inaccurate attempts by the Saints. Kiryakoza made another huge save at the 64th minute, and the Warriors made sure to control their own destiny with a massive goal by Howes in the 77th minute to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Another save by Kiryakoza in the 85th minute sealed a clean sheet

STAT OF THE GAME

It was a day of many firsts, but Kiryakoza is the first-ever freshman to log a clean sheet for the Warriors in postseason play since joining the WHAC
