The Warriors fell behind in both games over the weekend against the Aquinas Saints. The Saints took advantage of large scoring runs to take the Warriors out of the contest. Shaun Zatelli led the Warriors' scoring attack, scoring two goals in the weekend's first installment.
FIRST GAME - AQ at RCU - 7-3
Aside from a goal by the Saints in the first period, the game opened up dead-even, with both teams shooting 15 shots at each other. Freshman goalie Nicolas Spognardi was near-perfect in the period, logging 14 saves to keep the Saints from scoring. However, the Saints' Xavier Erickson would find the back of the net with eight minutes remaining to give Aquinas the lead.
Zatelli and the Warriors responded early in the second period. The forward took a pass from Cole Zalewski and sent the puck careening into the back of the net to tie the game. Both teams remained even for the next 11 minutes, with the Saints regaining the lead at six minutes. The Warriors entered the third period down 2-1.
The third period was tough for RCU. The Saints took a commanding lead off three goals in three minutes to push ahead of the Warriors. RCU answered with two consecutive goals, one off a power play by Kyle Hauer. Zatelli scored with just over five minutes remaining to slim the Saints' margin, but Aquinas' two late goals kept the Warriors at bay.
SECOND GAME - RCU at AQ - 0-11
The second game of the weekend was a tough one for the Warriors, with the Saints finding plenty of offensive success in the game's first two periods. The Warriors found themselves down 4-0 to end the first period before the Saints tacked on six goals in the second period, including three on power plays. One more power play for the Saints in the third period ended in a goal to put the game at 11-0 Aquinas.
