WARRIORS COME UP JUST SHY AGAINST SIENA HEIGHTS

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Warriors (8-20, 0-10) fell just shy of a win in the first game of a doubleheader against Siena Heights (11-13, 5-3) on March 28. After a tight start, the Saints pushed ahead with runs in consecutive innings to halt the Warriors from getting their first win in conference play. Left fielder Brendan DeFlorio led the Warriors at bat with four RBI during the day.

GAME ONE - L, 3-5

Things didn't pick up until the second inning, where DeFlorio got the Warriors going with a two-RBI single to give Reese Ungvarsky and Mason Young runs. Siena Heights gave an emphatic response in the bottom of the inning, tieing the game on a two-RBI triple to get momentum in front of their home crowd. From there, the Warriors cooled off at the plate which set up a scoring run for the hosts.

The Saints started to chip ahead in the fourth inning, scoring a run before hitting a homer in the fifth inning. The Saints tacked on another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to set the lead at three runs. The Warriors had a shot at tying the game in the seventh inning, set up by a Luke Jayaraman RBI single to score Jayden Peterson after Peterson doubled. Unfortunately for the Warriors, a flyout sealed the deal for Siena Heights in the first game.

GAME TWO - L, 5-13

The second game started similarly to the first, with both teams trading runs early. Jack LaRue kicked things off for RCU with an RBI double for Jayaraman. After the Saints took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first, the Warriors regained the lead thanks to a DeFlorio double that gave Lucas Bateman and Aidan Alspaugh time to get home.

Things began to fall apart for Rochester Christian in the bottom of the third, though, as the Saints got back two runs before pulling a double-play on the Warriors in the fourth inning. To make matters worse, Siena Heights exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth, including a grand slam. LaRue homered in the top of the fifth to stop some of the bleeding, but two more runs by the Saints afterward rendered the play futile. Raymond Perez III gave RCU another score with a single that earned Jayaraman his second run of the game. However, one more run from the Saints in the eighth made the deficit too much for RCU, ending the game 13-5.
