WARRIORS FALL BEHIND IN SECOND HALF AGAINST HOLY CROSS, 3-1
WASHINGTON, Mich. - A late goal from the Warriors' (0-2-0) midfielder Josh Grow wasn't enough to bring RCU back into the fold during their home debut against the Holy Cross Saints (1-1-0) on Aug. 20. After a strong first half showing, the Saints found openings in the Warrior defense to end the game at 3-1.
THE RUNDOWN
FIRST HALF
- The Warriors were contested early, but goalkeeper Kris Tauzik held strong on a power shot from the Saints to start the game. Shortly after, the Saints found a goal seven minutes into the contest from forward Juan Perez. The Warriors' Joe Cercone initiated the first successful offensive attack of the game for the Warriors with a shot on goal that was saved by Holy Cross
- Tauzik continued a strong first half showing with two more saves in a three-minute span to keep the Warriors only down one to enter halftime
SECOND HALF
- Two shot attempts from the Warriors' Dmitar Stankovic and Milos Stojakovic would go wide to start the second half, while the visitors found their second goal of the game in the opening ten minutes of the second half. Tauzik would make another tough save, while senior Viktor Juncaj would register a shot on goal to nearly get the Warriors back in striking distance
- Tauzik would log another tough save in the 75th minute, while Stojakovic nearly executed a highlight play in the Holy Cross box - performing a step-over to get past a Saints defender before firing a shot at goal that was saved. Juncaj took another shot at goal shortly after that was saved
- The Saints found the back of the net a third time on a breakaway goal with seven minutes remaining. Grow's goal came with two minutes remaining, scoring a one-toucher off a pass from forward Nemanja Adamovic
