WARRIORS THWART MICHIGAN-DEARBORN COMEBACK ATTEMPT IN 4-3 WIN

DEARBORN, Mich. - It was a stellar day of offense for the Warriors (2-9-2, 2-6-1), with four goals propelling the red and black to a 4-3 win over the Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines (3-9-2, 3-6-1) on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors survived a near comeback by the Wolverines, scoring a critical goal with 12 minutes remaining that prevented the Wolverines from forcing a draw. Forward Ivan Stojanovic scored two goals in the contest, including the strike late in the second half.

THE RUNDOWN

FIRST HALF

  • Stojanovic got started right away with a shot on goal to get the Warriors started before midfielder Nemanja Adamovic nailed the post with a shot of his own. RCU found pay dirt in the 33rd minute when the Warriors drew a penalty kick opportunity that Stojanovic capitalized upon. RCU continued to attack the Wolverine defense with two more shots on goal by Stojanovic and Dmitar Stankovic, with Stankovic finding a golden opportunity with a minute and a half remaining. Stankovic broke through two defenders and made a move past the Wolverine keeper to score on an empty net and give RCU a 2-0 lead entering halftime

SECOND HALF

  • It was calm before the storm for the second half's first 25 minutes, as neither team registered a shot on goal. That changed when the Warriors' Milos Stojakovic found a loose ball in the box for a tap-in goal to give the Warriors a significant 3-0 lead. Michigan-Dearborn's Robert Nabulere gave Michigan-Dearborn a much-needed break with a 78th-minute goal. However, Stojanovic answered with a spectacular, highly-contested goal from the far left side of the box. Not going down without a fight, the Wolverines scored two goals in the final six minutes to give the Warriors a scare. However, RCU stalled enough to prevent a miracle at Dearborn Crestwood H.S.

STAT OF THE GAME

Since making the transition to offense, Stojanovic has shown his versatility, with a career-high five goals on the season.
