
WARRIORS WRAP UP PEPSI PATRIOT OPEN; THOMSON EARNS FIRST OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
CORBIN, Ky. - The Warriors competed in the Pepsi Patriot Open on Nov. 2 following their 35-9 dual victory over Midway University, finishing up their first weekend of the 2024-25 season. Multiple Warriors produced standout results, including newcomer Hunter Thomson, who took home first place in the 141-lb freshman/sophomore division to secure his first career open championship. Alongside Thomson, seven other Warriors produced top-five placements during the event.
Amauri Wright placed second in the 125-lb freshman/sophomore division, highlighted by a thrilling 13-10 victory over Jayden Rouse of WVU Tech in the quarterfinals. Wright won three matches by fall leading up to the quarterfinal finish.
Cristian Rojas and Martine Jacobo also earned top finishes in the open, with Jacobo prevailing by multiple close decisions to continue advancing through his tournament bracket. Rojas recovered well after taking an early loss by decision, flying through the consolation bracket with several wins by fall. Julius Polk and Adam Polk earned fourth-place finishes in the tournament, and Kirgin Tanis and Tevieon Etchen rounded out the Warriors' weekend with fifth-place finishes in their respective brackets.
