LATE GOAL PUTS WARRIORS BEHIND GRAY WOLVES 2-1

WASHINGTON, Mich. - A flurry of goals in the final minutes of an action-packed matchup between the Warriors (1-3-3, 1-1-0) and the Lourdes Gray Wolves (4-0-1, 1-0-0) went the way of the visitors on Wednesday afternoon at Michigan Stars Sports Center. The Warriors earned their lone goal in the contest from defender Bella Ames, who Aliana Perez assisted.

THE RUNDOWN

FIRST HALF

  • The first half ran like a track meet, with both teams sending ferocious counter-attacks at each other to find opportunities in goal. The Warriors put themselves in scoring position a couple of times, but the Gray Wolves' defense found ways to disrupt shots. Not to be outdone, however, was the Warrior defense, who swarmed the goalkeeper's box. Following a shot careening off the post, defender ADyson McCullough found herself as the last line of defense and blocked a shot on the goal line to keep the Gray Wolves from scoring

SECOND HALF

  • The second half only amplified in pace, with the Gray Wolves pushing to try to catch the Warriors out of position. In a ten-minute span, goalkeeper Sabrina Kiryakoza was tested four times and produced saves on all four shots. On another attempt by Lourdes in the 73rd minute, defender Sydney Hawks made a brilliant sliding effort to save another Lourdes ball off the goal line to keep things tied
  • The Gray Wolves found a chance in the 77th minute and found the back left corner to score the game's first goal. Two minutes later, the Warriors executed a perfect corner kick thanks to Perez's well-placed ball, which found Ames for a header. Only two minutes after that, however, the Gray Wolves broke past the Warriors for the game-winning goal, ending the Warriors' momentum

STAT OF THE GAME

Perez has two assists off corner kicks this season - her other assist taking place in the Warriors' 5-2 loss against #7 Spring Arbor.
