WARRIORS DEFEAT CORNERSTONE BEHIND LATE SECOND HALF GOAL FROM JOYCE

WASHINGTON, Mich. - The Warriors (2-4-5, 2-2-2) got a big conference win on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Cornerstone Golden Eagles (5-3-2, 3-1-1) 1-0 behind a late second-half goal. In a highly physical contest, the Warriors and Golden Eagles went back and forth on attacking attempts, shooting 22 combined shots. 

THE RUNDOWN

FIRST HALF

  • The Warrior defense was off to a strong start, producing a few blocked shots to prevent the Golden Eagles from scoring. RCU's Sabrina Kiryakoza made two saves in three minutes to help add to the defensive effort. Defender Nicole Wrobel gave the Warriors a chance with a shot on goal seven minutes before halftime, but things remained at a draw

SECOND HALF

  • The action continued in the second half, with midfielder Faith Staley nearly getting a deep shot to go. The game continued to be a battle, with both teams fighting for opportunities at goal. Aliana Perez and Kennedy Fraser kept control of the sidelines for the Warriors with strong defensive containment
  • The big chance for RCU finally came in the 81st minute, with Staley taking a foul kick from the left side of the goalie box. After a scramble for the ball, Olivia Howes tapped the ball to a wide-open Joyce for a game-winning goal to seal a big WHAC win for the Warriors

STAT OF THE GAME

Joyce has now scored two goals in the last two games for the Warriors.

The Warriors travel to Adrian, Mich., to face the Siena Heights Saints on Friday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m.
