WARRIORS DRAW WITH MICHIGAN-DEARBORN 1-1
DEARBORN, Mich. - A barrage of shots for the Warriors (4-5-6, 3-3-3) on Saturday afternoon produced one goal against the Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines (2-11-3, 2-7-1) in a 1-1 draw at Dearborn Crestwood High School. After trailing for much of the game, the Warriors found gold on their signature corner kick play, with defender Bella Ames nailing a header into the left side of Michigan-Dearborn's net to force the draw.
THE RUNDOWN
FIRST HALF
- The Warriors' offense found plenty of opportunities to get the game started, beginning with shots on goal by midfielder Jenna Schodowski and forward Laila Vanhoorelbeke. Goalie Sabrina Kiryakoza stopped a shot from Michigan-Dearborn's Nadia Saab at the eight-minute mark to keep things even. Following another save by Kiryakoza, the Wolverines sneaked a shot by for a goal in the 24th minute to open the scoring. Two shots on goal from Warriors Faith Staley and Annelise Frank shortly after would be the remaining shot-on-goal attempts by either team before halftime
SECOND HALF
- A few shots from the Warriors went wide to begin the second half, but RCU's defense held firm for a large chunk of the second half, only allowing one shot by the Wolverines. That defense turned into offense in the 69th minute when Ames soared over all the players in the box for a corner-kick header goal. RCU continued to bring the attempts at the Wolverines, but Wolverine keeper Julia Tasker was up to the task, saving two shots in the final ten minutes to call the game even
STAT OF THE GAME
If it ain't broke, don't fix it - Ames has three headers off corner kicks for goals this season. Her four goals this season are a career-high.
