VOLLEYBALL DOWNED IN THREE SETS TO SIENA HEIGHTS
ADRIAN, MI - The Warriors (3-13, 0-5) struggled to find consistent play as they fell to the Siena Heights Saints (10-4, 2-3) in three sets on Wednesday night. Middle blocker Darcy Benin proved to be a bright spot in the loss, chalking up her season-high in blocks with seven.
The Warriors were a bit sloppy out of the gate with some regrettable misplays, but still found themselves in position to take the match's first set, knotted at 14 with the Saints. Benin had proven to be a force at the net, causing problems for the Saints to alleviate some of the offensive woes. The Saints, however, would then go on a 4-0 run and never looked back on their way to a 25-20 set victory.
The Warriors had a textbook play to start the second – bump, set, spike – the kill courtesy of senior Olivia Pannecouk. Rochester looked to do that a few more times. The Warriors had a 6-5 lead when the Saints began a dominant 13-2 run to take the set for good. Senior Emily Carroll had a tactful cross-court spike which provided one of the two points the Warriors gained on the Saints' run. Despite that, the Saints took the game 25-15.
Rochester aimed to keep pace with Siena Heights in the third to at least salvage a set and brought the score to a 12-15 deficit. Another big run by the Saints, though, and the Warriors lost their chance. Siena Heights would finish the sweep with a 25-16 victory.
UP NEXT
The Warriors look to refresh themselves with a three-game homestand, starting with a matchup against the Lourdes Gray Wolves (1-9, 1-4) on Friday.
